On top of the roof
The air is so cold and so calm
</i>

A strange peace was in the soft breeze of cool air blowing past her. Above her head of messed auburn locks, the stars cried in the navy sky. Down below, a crowd of on lookers had gathered. The flashing ambulance and police lights looked dim from her perch on the stone ledge.

Was he there with the rest of them?

I say your name in silence
You don't wanna hear it right now
</i>

Dark green hair and sea blue eyes, the young man in the crowd strained to see the face of the woman looking down. Why was the building so tall? He bit his lip, drawing blood, but he didn’t notice as he was mulling over his own stupidity. She had chosen a building this tall. Her intentions were clear.

A police light shone up to the roof, removing the darkness that had cloaked her and revealing her face. Inside his chest his heart stopped.

Grace!

The eyes of the city
Are counting the tears falling down
Each one a promise
Of everything you never found
</i>

Tears slid down her porcelain white face from her amber eyes down to the streets below. Did the crowd catch her tiny droplets? Were they experiencing the rain of her hesitation and pain? Did they feel what was to be her last tear fall?

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
</i>

Don’t do it! He called out in his head, unable to make his voice come. Don’t make this nightmare complete!

The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
</i>

Don’t try and stop me, Andy. I have to do this. I have to. Closing her eyes, yet another tear became released to the world below. But I hope you see this.

Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
</i>

Looking around at all the people gathering the young man’s breath caught in his throat. Everyone seemed prepared to watch her die. Why was no one going to stop her? Did no one care?

Then again, all they could see was the lost beauty standing before them. They hadn’t know her when she was happy; full of life. None of the strangers clustered here had known her when life was everything she wanted and more.

Then again, neither had he. He had only seen her, hadn’t he?

Please don't jump</i>

Eyes still lightly shut; she shifted back and forth on her feet. He took off into the building.

You open your eyes
But you can't remember what for
</i>

This whole thing will be easier if you keep your eyes closed, she scolded herself as she once again viewed her dismal surroundings. The wind around her grew colder, drawing out goose bumps along her arms.

The snow falls quietly
You just can't feel it no more
</i>

His lungs ached, but he pressed himself onwards, up the countless flights of steps. With every single step he took, they became increasingly harder to climb. Burning in his mind, her face was the only thing that kept him going at his speed.

When he flung open the door, he could see her. All that obscured his view were the soft white flakes now falling from the sky. He wasn’t too late.

Somewhere out there
You lost yourself in your pain
You dream of the end
To start all over again
</i>

She heard the door open, but didn’t turn around. Really, there was no need to. He was behind her; she had no doubt in her mind.

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
Please don't jump
Don't jump
</i>

“GRACE!” He called from across the rooftop. Rushing closer with the strength he forced himself to use, the man came to a stop behind her. “Please don’t do this,” he begged, sorrow dripping off his words like the tears from his face. “Please don’t.”

Grace stayed silent.

I don't know how long
I can hold you so strong
I don't know how long
</i>

“Grace please, listen to me,” He continued, “I - I’m sorry! I’m sorry I didn’t notice that you liked me more…”

“I loved you.”

Just take my hand
Give it a chance
Don't jump
</i>

“I know. I know. Look, I didn’t mean any of what I said!”

“But you did,” she kept her back to him. Her words drove into his heart like a burning dagger.

“Please, take my hand!” He begged, sobs tearing through his body as he extended his shaking hand. “Don’t jump.”

She didn’t move.

I scream into the night for you
Don't make it true
Don't jump
The lights will not guide you through
They're deceiving you
Don't jump
Don't let memories go
Of me and you
The world is down there out of view
Please don't jump
Don't jump
And if all that can't hold you back
</i>

Desperately, he looked from the ledge to her, and he knew what he had to do. She needed to live; millions of people, including her son, counted on her. What did he have? Nothing. Nothing tying him here. She’d find better.

“I’m going to show you how stupid this is,” he said darkly as the door behind them clicked open. Grabbing her hand, with a burst of adrenaline he pulled her back, throwing her into the arms of safety. Without looking back, he soared over the edge.

I'll jump for you</i>
A songfic I believe these are called - stories with song lyrics intertwined with the story. For this one, I reccommend reading the story with the song playing.
